Tailgate struts are a common replacement item on Range Rover Sports.
Like any hydraulic damper, these can fail with age and should be replaced in pairs.
You will see first signs of this on particularly cold days (struts fail first at colder temperatures.)
So if your tailgate won't stay up on a cold morning, it's time for replacements.
