Universal, 12-volt coil features an oil-filled design and arc resistant alkyd top for superior performance,
insulation and cooling.
This coil is specifically designed to deliver optimum performance when used with:
- Mallory UNILITE® Distributors
- Magnetic Breakerless Ignitions
- Mallory Point-type distributors

 

Note: Mallory has different coils with different resistances for a variety of applications. The major
factor that determines the need of a ballast resistor is the coil “Primary Resistance”. This is
very important to consider when buying a coil. Please see our coil guidelines below.

 

POINTS TYPE DISTRIBUTORS
When using with a Mallory Point-type Distributors an additional ballast resistance of 0.5-1.0 Ohms
in addition to the existing resistance of this coil for a total of 2-4 Ohms should be used. The ballast
can be either the existing vehicle ballast resistor or Loom resistor wire. We recommend MSD PN
8214 which is 0.8 Ohms.


UNILITE/ BREAKERLESS DISTRIBUTORS
When using with a Mallory Unilite® or Magnetic Breakerless Distributors in a performance application
a ballast resistor is not needed. However, for applications that are primarily street-driven, reliability
improves if the MSD PN 8214 is added to the coil + circuit.

 

Note: Not for use with Mallory HYFIRE® Electronic Ignition Control or any other high energy, inductive
storage or capacitive discharge ignition system.
