o2 Sensor Wiring

  1. O2 sensor has four wires, black, grey, and two white ones. The two white ones are the heater, which is not polarity conscious. Grey is the sensing element ground, and black is the sensor signal.
  2. Black sensor signal connects straight to the existing sensor connection. The grey and one of the whites need to be taken individually all the way to the 4CU system common earth on the back of the cylinder head. They must not be joined anywhere before that common earth, so the will be two separate earth's for each sensor, giving a total of four new wires at the earth.
  3. The other white heater wire is used to supply +12V whilst the fuel pump is running. The fuel pump relay has two terminal 87, one is in the center contact which is vacant. You can insert a receptacle into the center position of the fuel pump relay, and use that to feed both heaters.
  4. The reason the sensor and heater grounds have to be separated is that there is a significant current flowing down the heater ground, which will produce a variable voltage gradient according to how much power they need (constantly varies), which is enough to mess up the sensor reading.
