Bosch Motronic ECU upgrade for LR D2 abd RR P38

Posted by Mike Axt on 21st Feb 2026

Amazing performance. Emissions CARB certified in Colorado. Absolutely necessary when upgrading to oversized high comp pistons, stage 2 valve train, machining masters restoring the block and heads, blue printing, balancing, the 4.6 18% larger maf and intake components, ceramic exhaust manifolds, magnaflow exhaust, walker CARB approved cats, proper 8mm blue wires, etc., etc. The stock ECU for the 4.0 engine will continuously throw a lean condition for both banks and never pass emissions with the '03-'04 D2 intake components I would love to attach the CARB emission certificate reflecting this brilliantly reengineered ECU from TWS Motors flying through the CARB inspection. The power output and drivability is hard not to overate. It is a fact that a correctly built high perf 4.6 in a D2 in no way, shape or, form - needs an LS swap. My D2 is now as enjoyable to drive as our 6.2L powered Escalade. And the D2 does not have a speed governor. A true freeway flyer. Effortlessly hauls. (of course I keep a set of road wheels and a set of snow/ice/off road wheels.) The powerful engine I assembled is very similar to the builds available through TWS. I can't emphasize enough that with a 4.6 built to hi-perf specs - a D2 does not need an LS swap. The exhaust note is superb. But, you can't get there w/o this reengineered masterpiece. I also want to express my thanks to the Team at TWS for quickly addressing every single concern or question I had regarding the purchase of this pricey upgrade. Money very well spent.
